My 10-Day Post Holiday Detox Story! |+ 4 Recipes

Feeling bloated and uncomfortably gassy? Overindulgence is a common theme during seasonal festivities as it is often impossible to to escape heavy foods and fatty treats from the ending of November until the beginning of January. With large family gatherings, hefty quantitates of cooked food, movies  and late night mingling even a healthy eater like myself always finds it hard to stay on track during the holidays. Of course the holidays are the perfect time of year for family bonding as it tends to strengthen family relationships and values while creating unforgettable memories…Unfortunately it has a not-s0-positive impact on our diets as all the excess carbs, fat, salt, sugar and alcohol can leave us feeling gassy, bloated, tired and guilty.

So a last week I did what anyone  seeking to reestablish a healthy equilibrium post-holiday would do, I embarked on a 10-day Vegetarian Detox, here’s how I did it:

→I ATE A VEGETARIAN DIET

Eliminating artificial sugars and unhealthy fats from my diet was another key step in helping to rid my body unwanted toxins caused from overindulging over the holidays as help to suppress my cravings for salty, sugary, fatty foods while reestablishing my cravings and taste for fruits and veggies. Fueling my body with extra fruits and veggies gave me an extra boost of  vitamins, minerals, fiber and hydration.

→ INCREASED MY WATER INTAKE

Increasing my water intake was the best way to kickstart my detox as water is the best way to refuel, delivering nutrients and oxygen to the cells and organs to the body. Water also helps regulate digestion as it helps to breakdown and transport waste  from the body while aiding in healthy kidney function. In addition drinking  more water helps the body to properly absorb vitamins and minerals.

→I CREATED A DAILY WORKOUT PLAN

A daily workout routine was another great way to jumpstart my post holiday recovery process. In addition to helping me shed any extra pounds acquired over the holidays, a daily workout plan (which consisted of mostly yoga and aerobics) helped to remove toxins as sweat detoxifies the body while unclogging pores in the skin.

→I ATE A BALANCED BREAKFAST  + ELIMINATED LATE-NIGHT SNACKING

Eating a healthy balanced breakfast every morning (like every morning of my life) was essential in the detoxifying process as a balanced breakfast boosted my metabolism again helping to my body burn calories at a much faster pace throughout the day, while preventing me from overeating later in the day. Limiting late night snacking therefore helped prevent overeating  and overindulging in sugary high -calorie foods.

→I DRANK LOTS OF SMOOTHIES + FRESHLY SQUEEZED JUICES

Fresh homemade juices was a quick, simple and effective way to get way to get my daily 10 servings (recommend by nutritionist) of fruits and veggies as freshly squeezed juices and smoothies are more easily absorbed  by the body as it aids in processing crabs as it properly processes and distributes carbs, vitamin  and minerals through the body. Freshly squeezed juices and smoothies in addition also provide the body with large amounts of water as it aids in producing energy, regulating metabolism and promoting elasticity of the skin.
