Spring 2 0

Spring started a few weeks ago, but the temperatures here in New York City have been suggesting otherwise up until the start of this week. And while it’s been great to finally enjoy warmer weather, the heat has a way of leaving the body feeling dehydrated and frazzled.

For many, the change from winter to spring can be a major shock for the body, suddenly causing an immediate need for more hydration and electrolytes. However, this natural reaction is a result of an increase in perspiration as heat and humidity causes the body to cool itself through sweat, therefore causing a loss of water and other key minerals that help the body function normally.

Many will agree that hitting the daily water quota each day can sometimes be a difficult task, so how do you get our daily 8-ounces without compromising a lack of flavor? Fruit and herb infused water is a great alternative for conventional water, It is one of the simplest ways to stay hydrated during the warmer months and a great way to increase your daily water intake.

Infused water, fruit flavored water or detox water is generally any combination of fruits, veggies and herbs immersed in water in order to infuse flavors and nutrients. While infused water has the benefit of added flavor, it is also calorie-free and loaded with lots of additional nutrients from the fresh fruit and herbs. Additional benefits include:

  • Great source of vitamins C and B, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and fiber
  • Helps maintain balance of body fluids
  • Improves your mood.
  • Flushes toxins from your system.
  • Keeps your organs healthy while you’re sweating.
  • Promotes clear skin

Below are some of infused water recipes to keep you hydrated this spring. There is really no exact measurements, recipe or right way to make infused water, it is all about your personal taste preference and what you have on hand.
